Job Description
Primary Purpose:
Provide comprehensive legal support across all business operations by drafting and reviewing contracts, managing insurance and litigation matters, and addressing day-to-day legal requirements while contributing to strategic initiatives.
Key Performance areas and responsibilities:
Contract Drafting and Review
• Review and draft contracts to ensure legal soundness and alignment with company policies and obtaining insurance approval where applicable.
• Interpret and suggest amendments to contract terms, standard trading terms and conditions, and tender submissions in collaboration with relevant business units and marine liability insurance brokers.
• Ensure contract terms are favourable with business units’ operations, legally sound, and aligned with insurance policy requirements.
• Draft and update standard trading terms and conditions, obtaining approval from the marine insurance provider and applicable internal stakeholders.
Contract Administration and Compliance
• Ensuring contracts are signed by stakeholders in a timely manner.
• Oversee contract compliance by administering an internal process which ensures business’ awareness to agreed-upon terms and regulatory requirements.
• Administration of and assisting business units with insurance-related disputes and claims.
• Demonstrate responsibility and commitment by adhering to the ISO standards to which MGN is certified in all assigned duties.
Third-Party Due Diligence & Onboarding
• Draft, review of terms and conditions, and assist business units with the completion of third-party onboarding documents.
• Manage due diligence and Know Your Customer (KYC) documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory and insurance requirements in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
Litigation and Legal Correspondence
• Drafting of legal correspondence, internal legal opinions and providing legal advice/support to business units when necessary.
• Coordinate debt collection and litigation processes.
• Liaising with internal stakeholders and external legal counsel where applicable.
Job Requirements:
Education:
• NQF Level Seven (7) Qualification - Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent.
Work Experience:
• Five (5) years of experience in a legal role – experience in a commercial legal role will be an advantage.
• Experience with contract law, insurance processes, interpretation of legislation and regulatory compliance.
• Strong understanding of contract law.
• Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management system.
